Border security: launch of a project with the support of Japan

The Minister of Interior and Security, Vagondo Diomandé, launched a project in early July intended to strengthen border management and community resilience in northern Côte d'Ivoire. Funded by Japan and implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the initiative particularly targets border areas exposed to security threats. The ceremony also made it possible to carry out the mid-term review of the Migration Information and Data Analysis System (MIDAS), currently in the pilot phase at the Kalamon border post, on the border with Burkina Faso. The project provides for the construction of housing for security forces as well as the rehabilitation of the Kalamon and Koguienou posts. For the minister, a secure border does not mean a closed border, but a space that facilitates legal trade while strengthening the confidence of populations and investors. This approach is part of a broader strategy to stabilize the northern border areas of the country.
