This is news that delights the Ivorian mining sector. Awalé Resources has announced a gold prospecting in the Fremen discovery zone, located on its Sienso permit, in Odienné, approximately 400 kilometers from Yamoussoukro. Fodder results, deemed technically sound, indicate up to 17 meters at 1.9 grams per tonne gold, including 9 meters at 2.3 g/t. Crucially for future profitability, mineralization is confirmed close to the surface, which significantly reduces potential extraction costs
The identified gold perimeter already covers 1 kilometer, part of a total mineralized corridor of 8 kilometers. This discovery is not isolated, it is part of an ambitious exploration program launched in October 2025, targeting in particular the BBM, Charger and Empire prospects, with the objective of constituting a resource of at least 2 million ounces of gold. Newmont, the world's leading gold producer, had already injected nearly 957,000 Canadian dollars into the project's exploration work, demonstrating the confidence of major players in the sector.
This announcement comes in a particularly favorable context for Ivory Coast. The country, which concentrates around 35% of West Africa's Birimian rocks (geological formations rich in gold), today has 19 mines in production, 13 of which exploit gold. During the Mining Indaba 2026 World Forum in Cape Town, the Ivorian authorities presented this potential to more than a hundred international investors.
Thus, with the discovery of Awalé Resources in Odienné, Côte d'Ivoire confirms its mining attractiveness and its grandiose place on the global gold scene, at a time when Gold race in West Africa intensifies.
