It was on the sidelines of the Bagoué Regional Council that a technical cooperation agreement was sealed between the Ivorian region and the São Francisco and Parnaíba Valleys Development Company (CODEVASF). A Brazilian state structure with recognized expertise in irrigation and water resources management, this agency has been involved for decades in the revitalization of rural areas in Brazil, one of the world's leading agricultural producers. The memorandum of understanding provides for the introduction of efficient irrigation systems, better management of water resources and capacity building for stakeholders in the rural world of Bagoué. The region, with strong agricultural potential but still underexploited, intends to rely on the Brazilian model to accelerate its structural transformation.
This partnership is part of a broader dynamic of rapprochement between Abidjan and Brasília. In May 2025, Ivory Coast had already signed a memorandum of understanding with the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture covering food security, sustainable production and animal and plant health. In February 2025, the Ivory Coast-Brazil Business Forum led to the signing of memorandums between CEPICI and APEX Brazil, reflecting a common desire to boost agricultural and commercial exchanges. For Minister Bruno Nabagné Koné, this agreement represents a concrete implementation of the National Development Plan 2026-2030, which aims to make Ivorian agriculture a competitive, sustainable and industrialized sector.
The ball is now in the technicians' court. If implementation follows the dynamic inspired by the signature, Bagoué could well become the laboratory of an agricultural revolution in the north of Côte d'Ivoire.
